Daily Journal 2025

We stayed at Space Center RV Park in Houston, Texas until January 12. Our friends Bill & Julie Mars drove from Sebastian, Florida to spend a week with us and our family, arriving on January 5. Tuesday afternoon we took Bill & Julie to the Lone Star Flight Museum and then we went over to Josh & Karen's for dinner.

Thursday, January 9 was cold and rainy but we went to the Johnson Space Center for the afternoon. From Houston, we drove down the coast to Rockport, Texas, one of our favorite cities along the Gulf Coast. In Rockport, we visited the Texas Maritime Museum again as well as the Fulton Mansion.

From Rockport we went to Lazy Palms Resort in Edinburg, Texas for a couple of weeks before heading to Alamo, Texas Encore Resort for two weeks. While at Alamo, we visited the South Texas Motorcycle Museum and the Museum of South Texas History.

We left Alamo on February 14, a week before the polar vortex hit and we were in Fredericksburg, Texas when it hit. Before we got stuck in it, though, I was able to visit the National Museum of the Pacific War, the history of Admiral Charles W. Nimitz and the Pacific Combat Zone, an extension of the Museum.

From Fredericksburg we made our way back to our lot in Whitney, Texas, arriving at the end of February. We will be here for a few months while I get work done on the trailer and Jim goes to PT for his knee, which he injured while we were in Fredericksburg.

Josh and family came up to visit us over Easter Weekend. The grandchildren stayed in the Living Room, while Josh & Karen put up their big tent so they could have a comfortable mattress to sleep on. We went to visit the Waco Mammoth National Monument and the Waco Suspension Bridge on Saturday, April 19.

We have decided to do some traveling this summer. We first went to Houston, Texas in June to share in our granddaughter's confirmation; from there we headed back to Tres Rios RV Resort in Glen Rose for two weeks.  We left Glen Rose on June 26 and slowly made our way north to Cody, Wyoming. I did want to go to California but when they added a 60 cent per gallon tax to their gas, we decided that was just too expensive to head there. I heard that by 2026 gas will be in the $8 per gallon range. (We get 8mpg so it would cost us $1 for every mile we drove.) Maybe in the future?? Only if they wise up and get rid of those running California into the ground. Anyway, we are going to be traveling through Kansas and Nebraska before heading into Wyoming.

Our first stop was in Liberal, Kansas where we went to see Dorothy's House and the Land of Oz and the Mid-America Air Museum.

Our next stop took us to Dodge City & the Trolley Tour and the Boot Hill Museum. Traveling on, we next stopped in Oakley, Kansas to visit the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center and the Fick Fossil & History Museum.

We arrived in North Platte, Nebraska on July 9 for a week, and look forward to seeing some of the sites in the area. We had dinner our first night at Pals Brewing Company of pizza and beer. One day we tried to visit the Buffalo Bill State Historical Park, which we did not do because they wanted to charge us $14 just to park, so we opted to go to the Lincoln County Historical Museum instead. We also visited Fort Cody Trading Post and Cody Park Train Museum. The last place we visited here was the Golden Spike Tower, which is largest train yard in the world. It is 2 miles wide and 8 miles long. It was amazing to watch the trains in motion.

We left North Platte on July 16 and headed to Scottsbluff, Nebraska. We are here for a week to visit some of the sights around the area. We went to see the Legacy of the Plains Museum, Scotts Bluff National Monument, the Japanese Hall, which is part of the Legacy Museum, and Chimney Rock National Historic Site.

We were in Cody, Wyoming for a week from July 26 -- one day before Jim's birthday -- to August 2. We are back here to see the Cody Firearms Museum because the last time we were in Cody, it was closed for renovation. We also visited the Buffalo Bill Dam. We did not get to see much of the Draper Natural History Museum as we wanted to see the live Raptor Exhibit and it was running late in the day by the time we finished viewing the Plains Indians Museum. I got a few pictures of Buffalo Bill's museum that are not in my first post from 2018.

From Cody we headed back south to Monument, Colorado where we are staying at a Colorado Heights RV Park, which is a Coast to Coast Membership Park, for two weeks. The city has gotten so very crowded; the only way to get to most places is I-25. Pikes Peak is now $18 pp to drive up to the top; plus you have to "pick a time" you want to go. So, instead of going there, we are just going to see some of the museums in the area instead. The first one we went to was the Ghost Town Museum, then the other day we went to visit the National Museum of WWII Museum. We also went to see the Western Museum of Mining.

From Monument, Colorado we headed south on I-25 through the Raton Pass into New Mexico where we stayed at the NRA Whittington Center for a week (August 20-27). We drove down the main road in the Center that runs east/west to look around. Driving down the road to the west we passed the cabins, many places to shoot, and the primitive campground. At the end was the entrance to the Ghost Town of the Van Houton Mines. We drove down that road, almost to the end, before turning around. I have also updated my original blog on the Santa Fe Trail from 2018, added more pictures and documentary.

We stayed at a KOA in Las Vegas, New Mexico for two days. We went to visit Fort Union National Monument, which was a stronghold for those traveling the Santa Fe Trail. After Las Vegas, we will stop in Clovis, New Mexico for a few days. Even though the only museum in Clovis (Norman & Vi Petty Rock & Roll Museum) is one we have already visited, I would have enjoyed seeing it again, however, it is closed for renovation. From Clovis, we have one stop and then we will be staying Sweetwater, Texas for a couple of days. In Sweetwater, is the National WASP WWII Museum.

We headed back to Whitney, Texas after our stay in Sweetwater. It was time as we were both getting tired and needed time to chill. We arrived back in Whitney on September 6, and I don't know when we will head out again.

I did get to go to one so-called "museum" in Whitney with some of the people from Whitney Resorts. Jerri is friends with Frank Wade, a 91-year old who has a huge warehouse in Whitney which houses a collection of his memorabilia. He does not open his collection to the public, but enjoys showing off his collection, and only by making a reservation to to there. I was able to take pictures and did a blog on it, which I called Frank Wade's Memorabilia.
