Clubs & Organizations
We are members of a few clubs, some of which are just fun and others give us discounts on camping. A fun club is the Tin Can Tourists, one of the oldest RV clubs in America. There are rallies around the country, from Michigan to Florida, California to Texas. Tin Can Tourists was organized at Desoto Park, Tampa, Florida in 1919. It eventually disbanded and in 1998 Forrest and Jeri Bone renewed the club as an all make and model vintage trailer and motor coach club. The group was grown steadily to over 2,000 members and has a large following on social media sites. The new version of Tin Can Tourists is open to everyone and offers you a chance to meet and have fun with people who are dedicated to the enjoyment, preservation, and promotion of vintage trailers and motor coaches.
A camping club that I recommend is Passport America where you can get 50% off of a night's stay. Be sure to read the notes carefully and see what restrictions they have for staying with them. Some you are restricted to one or two nights; others block out weekends, and others you can stay there anytime for any length of time.
We have been members of Escapees for quite a few years now. Their home base is in Livingston, Texas, and we use them as our domicile address. There are a lot of campgrounds around the country that give Escapees members discounts, from 15% to 50%. Here is a list of Escapees Campgrounds. You can search the whole country or by state.
Escapees is a very important organization to belong to. They fight for the rights of RVers, regardless of whether or not they are members, because Escapees is a values-driven organization. They also defend RVers' rights when they can. They offer mail service in Texas, Florida, and South Dakota, and we use their mail service and address in Texas.
We also stay at Corps of Engineer parks when convenient. Some of them have FHU sites, others are just W/E and of course, some have no hookups at all. I found this map of the Corps parks that someone did. It breaks down the parks into different sections of the country and when you click on the icon, it takes you to the Reserve America site and all the information you need to know. It's a great site and I am very grateful for the person who put it together.
People also ask us about Good Sam. It's an OK club to belong to, however, you only get a 10% discount at Good Sam parks. We use them when I cannot find any other club park in the area. Here is a list of Good Sam parks around the country. By entering the city in the box and click search, you will get ALL parks in the area. If you just want Good Sam parks, click the little box under the search bar that says "Good Sam Campgrounds only."
We have also joined an organization dedicated to the health and welfare of those over 50 - and it's NOT AARP. We could never join an organization that is against the Second Amendment and has a liberal voice. We joined the conservative alternative to AARP - AMAC, The Association of Mature American Citizens, which we encourage you to join as well. They fight for our social security and medicare benefits and are working hard on the repeal of Obamacare, a disaster for senior citizens. Please see our secondary page which discusses AMAC.
I also have another page on camping clubs that we belong to, such as Coast to Coast and Thousand Trails. You can find them through this link.
