We wanted to see the Oregon coast because we heard that it was different and a lot of people we met raved about it. We started out trying to see the Columbia River Gorge but due to the fires coming down from Canada, there was nothing we were able to see. There was so much smoke it obliterated the whole gorge. We stayed in the area a week and then left.

We then went to the Oregon coast and were able to see most of it as the smoke did not make it that far, and I think the wind kept the smoke inland. It was fairly cold on the coast even though we were there in August. The coast is mostly rocks and rocky outcrops; not many beaches. We stayed at a Thousand Trails in Florence, and took a ride to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area, which was just a half mile down the road from the campground. We walked up a dune to get to the beach on the other side, but it was so cold there was no swimming there.  The picture shown above is Thor's Well located near Florence.

We also took a dune buggy ride which rode all over the dunes. That was a blast and the best thing we were able to do in Oregon.
