Daily Journal 2012
Our daily journal starts in May 2012, the month we left on our full time adventure. We made a few stops along the way and did some sightseeing on our way north to Minnesota. We made it to our first workamping job by the end of May and started working Memorial Day weekend at St. Croix Haven Campground in Hinckley, Minnesota from May to October 2012. In June we visited Crex Meadows State Wildlife Area in Wisconsin. It was a 20 mile drive to get to the Visitor Center and then another 24 mile drive through the Meadows.
In July we made a trip to Duluth, Minnesota and a spent the day at Lake 26, a small lake and beach in Wisconsin. The dogs really enjoyed playing in the water. In August as we were getting ready to head to the store, Lucy decided to chase chipmunks into a pile of wood next to the trailer. Before we knew it, she was screaming in pain and limping back to us with a large stick sticking out of her leg. I wrote about Lucy's Adventure with a Stick.
A neighbor to the park brought her huskies into the park and trained them using an ATV with then pulling it, which she did to train for her trek in Alaska.
In October we left Minnesota, down through Wisconsin and through Indiana to visit with our friends, Marilyn Ostby and Jeff Brookbank. From there we stopped in Maple Heights and stayed in front of Gayle's Dad's house for a couple of weeks. We were there when Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast and some of the tailings made it all the way to Ohio with high winds and driving rain. Boulders from Lake Erie were thrown up onto I-90, which had to be closed. We were to start work at Amazon in November, and so left Maple Heights just as the rain was leaving the area.
When we left Amazon in December, we stopped at Tremont Outdoor Resorts in Townsend, Tennessee to check it out - it was our workamping position for the summer of 2013. While we worked at Amazon, from May through December 2012 we visited the Kentucky distilleries.
From there we stopped in Stone Mountain, Georgia for a few weeks before heading south again. Our daughter Jacklyn and her husband Joe were living in our house in Stone Mountain, so we wanted to visit with them for a while before heading south. (Continued in 2013 Journal)
