We started out in July 2015 visiting the southeast part of New Mexico. We visited the Carlsbad area, which included Carlsbad Caverns National Park (see the National Parks page) and the Living Desert State Park, and a few other interesting sites in the area. We stayed at Brantley Lake State Park, a lovely park on Brantley Lake. From there we went west to Capitan and Lincoln. The above picture was taken at White Sands National Monument.

Unfortunately, our trip was cut short when our daughter called from Florida to inform us that she had stage 4 ovarian cancer and needed us to come to Florida to help her through surgery and chemo therapy. We were in Florida from August through November 2015, then slowly made our way back west. (Our daughter is now cancer free and doing great.)
We decided to start on our adventure again in 2016 by visiting Texas, then going west again through northern New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, and then back east along the southern route.
