Daily Journal 2014
We left Stone Mountain during the first week of January. Our first stop was North Shore Landing in Greensboro, Georgia, an Ocean Canyon property, for a few days. Boy it was cold there. It was so cold that we had to leave our faucet dripping so the hose would not freeze. Jim cracked the valve at the spigot and I put a bucket underneath it to catch the water. Our neighbor was not so lucky - he decided to let his shower drip and his hose froze and he had water all over the inside of his motorhome.
Heading south from North Shore, we made a stop at
Andersonville National Historic Site to visit Jim's Dad's grave before continuing south to Crystal River, Florida.
We then headed south to meet up with Bill & Julie in Crystal River, Florida for a week in January. We stopped at Sunset Isle in Cedar Key for a short stay before heading westward. We took our time heading to Texas where we were going to be working in the Activity Department of Yogi Bear Jellystone Park in Waller, Texas beginning in March. We stopped at the National Naval Museum in Panama City, Florida, then stayed at Gulf Islands National Seashore campground for a few days, then Abita Springs for a few days. In Abita Springs, Louisiana, we visited the Abita Mystery House. What a cool place; lots of weird and unusual objects.

Houston was on our way into Texas so we stopped and visited with Josh and family for a couple of weeks. We stayed at Green Caye RV Resort in Dickenson. It's about 11 miles from the park to Josh's house and takes us about 30 minutes to drive through traffic. Josh joined us at the local gun club to take a course to get our carry permits.
It was now time for us to head to Jellystone Park and begin our job in the activities department. They had hired directors who stayed there for a couple of months, but ended up going head to head with the managers and left one day, erasing all of the work they did setting up the department. Since Jim and I had obligated ourselves to stay, we ended up being asked to head the department, a job we did through June of 2015. In March we had "Wake up the Bears" day where all the kids were able to help wake up Yogi, BooBoo and Cindy. Our site was a corner site near the front of the park where a few other workampers set up; I also took pictures of the park to show how big it is.
It was a very hectic summer for us. Working as Activity Directors was time consuming and took up all of our time. We usually worked more than 8 hours a day and got two days off a week, which we used for laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning. There was not much time for sightseeing. We did have someone drop off a dog that hung around and eventually adopted us -- I named the dog Buster. Here is his story. Right before Easter, Josh and Family came up to visit us at Jellystone for the weekend. The grandkids had a blast; as do all children who visit Jellystone.
The only sightseeing we really did was in Ohio in June 2014 when Gayle's Dad went into hospice and we drove there to see him before he passed, and to help with his house. We stayed there less than a month before heading back to Jellystone Park. I made a couple of posts about my father, one telling a little of his life, and the other his final resting place.
While in Ohio, we visited Brady Lake, where Jim stayed while at Kent State; the Ledge at the Gorge where he and Kent friends posed for a picture; and the Warther Museum, a fantastic museum where Mr. Warther carved trains and other objects out of wood. We had not really planned on going back to Jellystone, but our employees kept calling us asking when we were coming back, so we decided to head back to them. Lucy and Hayley did a short blog post on life from their perspective, and in December we drove to Houston for Christmas with the family. We stayed in Jellystone through the winter to help clean it in preparation for the next season. I did do a blog post with pictures of Easter, July 4 and Christmas at Jellystone.
