January 2015. Still working at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park in Waller, Texas. We were asked to stay until the end of the year, and then ended up staying. But we decided to take a trip to Atlanta for a visit with Jim's mom and Jack. The park was not open for those months so we decided to visit them and then when we came back I worked in housekeeping and Jim worked in maintenance. We were going to travel during January and February but somehow that did not seem to materialize. I had to start ordering for the Activity Center during the middle of February so we would have the stuff for the center when it opened in March.
February - April 2015. After the two weeks of spring break the Park is only open on the weekends until the schools are out in June. We did tell Joe & Cyd, the general managers, that we would like to leave, so they are now in the process of looking for replacements for us. There are ads in the workamper websites so we are hopeful that the will be able to find replacements for us.
Near the end of March they asked me if I could paint the Yogi Bear and BooBoo statutes that are in the pool area. They were in dire need of repainting, so they were brought into the activity center and put in the back where I could repaint them. I really enjoyed doing that; it was not an easy task as these are not small statutes. Maybe the pictures I have show them.
Last week we went looking around the area and ended up at Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site. Found out that this was the first capital of Texas and the settlement was right on the Brazos River. Very interesting place. We are looking forward to seeing more of Texas once we get out of here.
May 20, 2015. It was three days after Mother's Day when Jim's Mom passed away. We told the Managers that we had to take a couple of weeks off and hopped in the Excursion and drove to Buford, Georgia, leaving the trailer at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park. Josh and Jacklyn both flew up for the funeral and Jonathan and Audrina came as well. Mom Kerch did not want much of a funeral, and it was a closed casket as well. After the "viewing" we drove down to Arlington National Cemetery because she was being buried with Jim's Dad, who had passed away in 1985.
We also visited our house in Stone Mountain on Greenhaven Road as it had been up for sale since Jacklyn & Joe moved out to Tampa. We hired one of Jim's friends to cut the grass and fix up the yard. While there we also noticed that someone had cut down one of our favorite maple trees that was in the back yard. We speculate that it was Frank, being the vindictive person that he is. They were angry that we were selling the house and did not sell back to them the small piece of property we bought from them years ago. Anyway, we met the realtor at the house and she informed us that she had a buyer who was offering $67,500. We took the deal, even though it was less than what we paid for it back in 1986. Oh well. We just wanted to get rid of the house. It was kind of sad too as this was our first and only house we have ever had and raised the kids in it.
June 2015. We found our replacements in the two young workampers who lived next to us at the park. They are in their early 30's and have degrees in liberal arts. Joe & Cyd took them out to dinner one evening to make sure they would do OK taking over activities. We put in our notice and trained them for two weeks.
June 17 was our last day working there and then on June 18 headed into Houston to visit with Josh & Karen and our grandchildren. We will stay here for the weekend and then start packing up the truck and trailer to head out on our RVing adventure again.
We were thinking about going to Corpus Christi but with all the rain coming lately, I think we may end up going northwest to Tres Rios for a couple weeks, then head west.
