July 2015. We stayed in Carlsbad, New Mexico at Brantley Lake State Park for a week and visited Carlsbad Caverns, Living Desert State Park, and Sitting Bulls Falls. When we left Carlsbad we went to Capitan, New Mexico and visited Smokey Bear's gravesite and Lincoln, where Billy the Kid visited.
We were at Fort Stanton when we got a call from our daughter, Jacklyn, telling us that she was going into the hospital for surgery for ovarian cancer. There was a huge lump in her abdomen and it had to be taken out. She said she needed us to come to Florida to help take care of her.
On July 27 (Jim's birthday) we left New Mexico for a 1700 mile trip to Apollo Beach, Florida to take care of Jacklyn while she goes through this traumatic time in her life. Her surgery took place on July 28 where they took out a mass over 22 cm in length and both of her ovaries. She stayed in the hospital until Friday and was able to go home. Our only stop on our way east was at the Duck Commander headquarters in Monroe, Louisiana.
We arrived in the area on August 1 and set up camp at River Oaks RV Resort in Ruskin, Florida. We were not very impressed with the campground when we first got here so looked around the area at the other campgrounds in the area. Some were total dumps and others did not take our dogs, so we are staying here for at least a couple of months, and maybe longer.
Jacklyn has had numerous doctor appointments in the past week, but I think the most important one took place today, She had a follow up with the surgeon who took out the mass and was told that she has Stage 3c cancer and will need to undergo a 4 stage chemo session. The doctor said that she got all of the cancer she could see and the chemo was a precaution to get the cancer she could not see. She starts the chemo treatment on August 17, which is every day that week for about 4 hours, the next two weeks she goes one day; then start week 2 the same as week one, and then on for four weeks. She was told she would probably lose her hair.
