September 11, 2015. As we honor the fallen from 9/11/2001, Jacklyn and I headed up to the Cancer Center for her treatment. This week began her 2nd stage of chemo treatment, and since Monday was a holiday, we are going back on Monday to complete her 5 day treatment. We will then go back on Wednesday when she gets fluid and some chemo. She is holding up but is very tired. Her weight has stabilized at about 138, which is a good weight for her. She is also starting to lose her hair and it comes out in globs every time she combs her hair. After treatment today we went to a wig shop so she could try on different wigs. They had a big selection of wigs, but most of them were on the dark side and some with two tones. She is looking for one close to her hair color, and there was only one that looked pretty good on her but it had a red tone. She will probably go to another wig shop to see what they offer. She also bought two scarfs online to put on her head.
September 16, 2015. Today was the her one day of the 2nd stage. Blood tests were done and then she got some quick treatment. It was a very short day and she wanted to get a pedicure and manicure afterwards, so we went to her favorite salon and she treated Mom to a pedicure. Never have gotten one before and I did enjoy it. The chairs they have are massage chairs and do quite a good job.
September 17, 2015. After Jacklyn's fever yesterday got up to 102.2 last night, Joe took her to the ER around 7, where they ended up admitting her. Her blood pressure is pretty low and her heart rate is pretty high. It was 142 when they first arrived, it's now 96. She is getting fluids and antibiotics and they're waiting on blood cultures to come back. The doctors are thinking that her port may have a bacterial infection and that is why she keeps getting a fever. Hopefully everything comes back fast and with good results and they release her today!
October 13, 2015. Today is Ellie's 5th birthday and Josh & Karen's anniversary. How time flies. Josh came to visit Jacklyn this past weekend and took her to her treatment on Friday. Bill & Julie drove over on Friday to visit with us and Josh. The four of us went to lunch and then to Jacklyn & Joe's for the afternoon. We had a great visit with all of them. Saturday morning we drove to the beach and relaxed in the sun for a few hours. Lisa drove in Saturday night after a catering event she had to do. We drove back over there Sunday morning to visit with Lisa and Josh before he had to fly home. Went to lunch at the Apollo Bistro, which was delicious. After lunch they left for the airport and Jim & I drove back to the trailer.
We were able to find an RV park along the Manatee River in Ruskin, Florida. The park was small with very few activities, but Jim did get to enjoy Shuffleboard. There was a city park right across the street where I was able to take the dogs and let them loose. One day three Sandhill Cranes came to the RV park and walked around, so I had to get pictures and a video of them.
October 24, 2019. We did a little bit of sightseeing in the Tampa area. We took a trip to the American Victory Ship in Tampa.
November 22, 2015. I just have not been good about writing in my travel log on a regular basis. Let's see -- Jacklyn's fourth and final stage of her chemo started October 26, which was this whole week of about 4-5 hours, then one day for the next two weeks. Her last day was November 13, with a Nuelesta shot on Monday to help her white blood cell count stay up. Jim & I stayed at River Oaks RV Park until November 14 and then headed over to Sebastian, Florida to visit with Bill & Julie for a couple of weeks. We are staying at a Coast to Coast park, which cost us $15 a night, then the second week we used our Passport America membership and stayed at the same place for $22 a night. Cannot beat those prices!
Been enjoying Bill & Julie's company almost every day with lunches out and dinner at their house. They have a lovely old house in Sebastian that was built around 1910. We also are enjoying the amenities here at the campground - swimming and shuffleboard! They have a huge dog park where I can let the dogs loose to run, and I let them run a little at their house as well.
We went to visit Barb & Bob Remley one day. Have not seen Barb since our last high school reunion, so we had a good time catching up on everything. The drive to their house was about 2 hours, and I wish it was not so far, since I would like to see her again.
Jacklyn & Joe will be driving over the celebrate Thanksgiving with us, and we will be heading to Woody & Rachael's house for dinner. Got to briefly see Jacob (Garrett's son) when Julie brought him to Mariner Marine, and this week we will get to see Woody's daughter. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. We made one visit to the McLarty Treasure Museum to see some of the treasures brought up from the ocean.
December 31, 2015. As another year draws to a close, I reflect on what has transpired this past year. Jacklyn has gotten a clean bill of health and is now in remission. All her tests came back negative and we are all looking forward to her regaining her health back and moving forward with her life. She and Joe will be moving forward with adopting children, so of course, I am looking forward to that.
Jim & I are in League City, Texas for a month visiting with Josh, Karen, Ellie & Jason. Jacklyn & Joe came to visit during the week of Christmas; it was good seeing them again. Jacklyn continues to improve and her test results have all come back negative. Her heart rate continues to be high so she and Joe are going to a cardiologist in January to get checked out.
It is such a joy to be with Ellie & Jason, and they look forward to seeing us as well. When we were leaving, they both said they will miss us, and of course we will miss them too. They will be so much bigger next time we see them.
